Dear Praying Friends
Thanks for your ongoing prayers! God is faithful, gracious and patient! He is truly bringing His sons to glory!
"Why Do We Still Sin?"
Last week at the Awana program, 9 year old Zachary asked, "If Jesus died to take away the sins of the world, why is there still sin in the world?" Good question! So, Ken (the other leader) and I explained that some people, even though they know about Jesus, don't trust in Him, don't believe in him. I then added that some people have never heard, so CAN'T even believe!
His response? "That makes sense, but I have another question. If Jesus died to take away the sins of the world, why do Christians still sin?" Wow, GREAT question!
I responded somewhat awkwardly, referring to the fact that our sin nature, the enemy, and the world all pull us toward sin. Again, he was good with the response.
The next day, while preparing a sermon, I was struck by the fact that my answer to Zachary was not "on target." I should have simply answered the second question the same way as I answered the first question.
Why Do We Still Sin? We don't believe! We still believe that WE know better than God in so many areas of our lives! We still believe that doing what gratifies ME will bring true satisfaction!
Wow, what a simple issue! How we complicate the matter!
When Jesus challenged one man to believe in order to see his son healed, the man responded: "I believe, help my unbelief!"
Jesus, I believe. But I believe imperfectly, stutteringly. Help me believe!
- connecting with Supporters – These times of reconnecting are so encouraging! I thank God for those who faithfully support this ministry!
- MAF Candidate School – What a fantastic group of people! What a wonderful learning opportunity! I praise God for organizations like Mission Aviation Fellowship that serve many cross-cultural workers around the world!
- College Prayer Event – Heritage College celebrates a day of prayer this Thursday. I look forward to connecting with students through this event.
- Church LINK connections – I meet with several pastors this week to share the concept of Church Based Teams.
Thanks again for praying! As we pray, let’s remember 1 John 5.14, 15 - “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”
P.S. Do you know someone I should be talking to about cross-cultural ministry? Jacob.Ginter@WorldTeam.org
